He was speechless.Īkira was down on one knee, a ring box in hand. His eyes widened at the sight in front of him. It was nearing time and he had been trying to get his head straight before he had to pop to question. “Goro,” Akira’s voice broke Goro out of his head a little. Normally it was too embarrassing to do, but tonight was different. He had even thrown in a few of those pet names Akira was so fond of using. He wanted his affection for Akira to really sing tonight. Goro was working hard to be a little … softer … than usual. The main course arrived and after a glass of wine, they had slipped into their usual easy banter. Normally, he couldn’t get his boyfriend to shut up no matter how much he wanted too. Akira was also being far quieter than usual.

Of course he could tell.Īkira merely hummed in response. “You’re being a little quieter than usual.” Akira’s observation shattered Goro’s illusion instantly. Probably not, Goro was a pro at hiding whatever was necessary.

He wondered if Akira could feel his nervous energy from across the table. Of course, waiting for the right time was slowly killing him. It was his turn to sweep Akira off his feet. Akira would cry as he accepted and Goro would win for once. He had practiced it on Ann multiple times and it had made her tear up so he knew it would be effective. Before the waiter came back to get their desert order, Goro would get down on one knee and deliver a heartfelt speech that would knock anyone off their feet. They would eat an exquisite meal with some top shelf wine.

He would let the conversation take it’s natural cadence. Goro put a hand over the ring in his pocket. He could never really understand why he would want to hide away those gorgeous gray eyes. He had done away with the glasses years ago at Goro’s insistence. These past three years had been the happiest in Goro’s life and tonight was all about showing Akira just that.Īkira chuckled as he sat across from Goro. The candles, flowers, everything was carefully chosen with Akira’s tastes in mind. “Would you expect anything less of me?” He eyed the table with pleasure. “Happy anniversary, love.” Akira crossed the restaurant quickly and kissed Goro gently. There was no way Akira was going to say no. Still, the weight of the ring box in his pocket felt heavier than it should. He had triple checked all the details before Akira had gotten off work and had paid the staff quite a bit to make sure it went off without a hitch. Goro felt the nervous knot in his stomach tighten as he saw Akira walk into the restaurant and over to their table.
