In order to ensure the correctness of simulation results, numerous experimental and simulation tests were conducted. To provide an accurate and comfortable tool, OS3 features a Graphical User Interface, live weather data integration, high resolution altitude data, accurate satellite movements, diff�erent visualization options, channel modeling and much more.
The use of OMNeT++ in combination with the INET framework allows the release under public license as well as a platform independent implementation. Therefore, this paper gives an overview about development, functionalities and benefit of a satellite simulation framework which is already available for download, called the Open Source Satellite Simulator (OS3). To guarantee those services, reliable simulation tools are necessary to scale and validate actual and future satellite systems. Internet-over-Satellite or GPS) are getting more and more important in our lives, whereby the operational area is still growing. Furthermore, a newly developed loss-of-lock detection method is presented and its performance is evaluated using SNACS. This paper presents the further development of the time-domain GNSS simulation tool SNACS and its extension with additional modulations and GNSS coding schemes. Yet to simulate GNSS signal processing with respect to multipath channels, the time-domain simulation approach serves as the most realistic and accurate but also as the most complex and computationally demanding method.
Many signal studies are based on correlation function simulation techniques. To study the influences of highly time-variant channels on GNSS tracking performance, simulations of various environments and signal combinations have to be considered.
The introduction of new GNSS signals of Galileo and the modernized GPS, for example, will provide higher signal bandwidths which alleviate the disruptive effects of multipath propagation. Multipath propagation is still one of the main error sources for many GNSS applications.
